Discover Your Type—Your Mattress Type
Need to replace your old mattress? Tired of back and neck pain or just plain tired when you wake up? You need a mattress that fully supports your sleep habits, and you should start with the right mattress type.
With choices from innerspring and memory foam to hybrid and mattress-in-a-box, there’s a mattress type that works great for your sleep style.
Pocketed Coil or Innerspring Mattresses
Innerspring mattresses use steel coils for weight-absorbing body support, excellent weight distribution, and buoyancy. The coil types may differ, but each spring-support layer is surrounded by soft upholstery layers for fully supportive comfort. Keep in mind, the higher the number of coils, the more support your mattress will have.
Pocketed or encased mattresses feature individually wrapped coils which provide motion isolation and perfect bounce-back support (no sinking-in feeling!). These mattresses are great for couples with different sleep schedules or for back sleepers who need more spinal support. Note that mattresses with high-density edge support keep dust mites and allergens from collecting.
Memory Foam, Gel, or Latex Mattresses
Memory foam gradually conforms to your body while it provides pressure-point relief, perfect weight distribution, and excellent motion isolation. This makes memory foam mattresses ideal for side sleepers or for people who generally sleep cool.
Gel memory foam has all the sleep benefits of regular foam, except the gel is hypoallergenic, dissipates heat more effectively, and provides enhanced air circulation. This is perfect if you tend to sleep too hot or live in a warm or tropical area. Additionally, gel memory foam mattresses relieve joint or back pain, so your sleep always feels restorative.
Latex mattresses also share the properties of memory foam, except latex provides better bounce and retains less heat. These mattresses are ideal for sleepers who like the extra bounce or for couples who need motion isolation. Since latex is a natural, sustainable product, it is also an environmentally friendly choice.
Hybrid Mattresses
Hybrid mattresses balance foam comfort with spring support for a durable, long-lasting sleep solution. Depending on the comfort level, these mattresses are the ideal compromise for couples with different sleep needs or habits.
Pillow Top vs Euro Top Mattresses
Both pilow top and Euro top mattresses contain a soft, extra layer of padding. The extra layer of a Euro top lines up with the edges of the mattress for a flush, uniform look; the extra layer of a pillow top is built into the quilting at the top for a cloud-like feel. These extra layers provide excellent pressure distribution, which is ideal for side sleepers and people who suffer from back or neck pain.
Keep in mind that pillow top mattresses have higher heights and won’t fit standard sheet sizes.
Bed-in-a-Box
If your lease is about to end or you’re moving, a mattress-in-a-box is an ideal solution for you. These are vacuum sealed in a box (great for maneuvering doorways) and sent directly to your doorstep.
