Tips on Working From Home

by Colder's Furniture

With these uncertain times, many of us have transitioned to working remotely and/or taking classes from our homes. Getting into a new routine can take time to feel adjusted, so we’ve provided a list of tips to help you get settled and adapted to working remotely.

  • Start by creating a routine. This could be waking up at the same time each day and getting some exercise while listening to your favorite podcast.

  • Make a plan and set goals for the day. When you have a plan for the day you’ll find yourself staying on track and focused on what’s ahead. Check out Plum Paper for personalized goal planners.

  • Take a break. This can be tricky when you’re home, but having time to recharge will help your productivity, so make sure to eat your lunch and possibly step outside for a short walk. There are apps to help keep you moving throughout your work day.

  • Set rules with those around you. Maybe you have a roommate, children, or significant other living in the same household. Make sure to communicate your needs and boundaries while working to help better your work-from-home experience.

  • Create a work-space. This should be a place you go each day that has your work essentials such as your laptop, notebook, monitors, pens and whatever else you might need for your work day! • Know when to stop working. Drawing a line between work and life can be difficult when working from home, but it’s essential to keep a balance. Have a nightly routine to help signal to yourself that the workday is over and you’re logging off for the night. This could be tuning into a favorite show, reading for pleasure, or doing some meditation.

  • Utilize technology. Although you might not be able to meet in-person, connecting via video calls is a helpful way to stay connected with coworkers and other team members.

  • Get ready for the day. This doesn’t need to be every day, but try to avoid staying in your pajamas each day. You might find yourself enjoying getting ready for the day and feeling more productive.
