Day Light Savings - How to Brighten up Your Home

    by Colders Admin

Let’s be honest, winter in the midwest can be brutal. Short days, cloudy skies, cold temperatures. These factors all have an impact on your health. Here are five quick ways to brighten up your home this winter.

    Lighting

Obvious, yes, but very important.  Get light bulbs in soft white to add a sense of coziness to your space.  Buy some of your favorite scented candles and light them after the sun goes down. The light, warmth, and smell will be sure to make your home feel cozier instantly.

If you live in an older Milwaukee home, we know ceiling lights are scarce.  Our solution? Add a floor lamp!   Here are a couple on trend styles we love:

    Cleanliness

Keep your home clean and tidy.  You’d be surprised how much this brightens your home and mood.  We recommend doing a deep clean before winter sets in (click here for a helpful checklist).  Make sure to clean your windows to let in as much natural light possible. Keep your counters spick and span, and get some cute baskets to organize the clutter.

Big Warm Blankets and Comfy Furniture

Everyone loves an oversized knit throw blanket.  Cuddle up and watch your favorite rom-com, then throw it over your sofa for a cozy statement piece.  And for the sofa you put it on? We recommend England Furniture’s oversized sectionals or reclining  furniture for maximum comfort.

    Indoor Plants

Indoor plants are great for you and your home.  They provide oxygen and clear toxins from the air while giving you a sense of being outside. The sad reality is that we get cooped up over the colder months.   Bring the outdoors in this winter. Adopt a houseplant (or two)! Don’t have a green thumb? Here is a list of eight indoor plants that do well in homes.

    Colors

Light and warm toned colors really brighten up a room.  Utilize white and gold tones on walls this season for a clean, open feel.  Experiment with brighter pops of color in yellow and orange tones in accent pieces.   Your home will feel brighter, happier, and warmer.
