Split King vs Divided King

King-sized adjustable beds are big. Really big. So big, in fact, that in order to get the adjustable base into your home, they need to be split into two sections.

When we talk about king-sized adjustable beds, we are talking about either a Split King or Divided King base. Here, we'll briefly talk about the differences between the two and the benefits each type has.

Split King

Split Kings are, as the name implies, split into two separate bases, one that controls each side of the bed.

In order to accomodate this, Split King mattresses are actually made up of two separate mattresses (usually Twin XL), that are laid side by side and connected in the middle in some way.

Split King beds are perfect for couples who have different needs. If one partner likes to sleep with their head elevated, and the other doesn't, a Split King bed has your back. If one of you likes to read or work on your laptop in bed, but the other one needs to get up early, a Split King will allow you to sit up and read while your partner snoozes away.

Divided King

For a long time, Split Kings were the only option we had when it came to adjustable bases. Then came the Divided King.

Divided King base is set up so that one of the two adjustable bases is under the head of the mattress, and the other is under the feet.

This means that both sides of the bed will adjust in tandem. Since there is only one motor in the base instead of the two needed for the Split King, Divided Kings are often much more affordable than Split Kings, though they don't have the same level of customization.
